Below is an “open letter” that Jeff Herron posted to facebook and I’m reposting here with his permission. I thought Jeff articulated well what I find many simple/house church folks are trying to express–especially to loved ones and other brothers and sisters who may not understand why they are doing what they are doing. Jeff has posted on this site before and he and his family continue to be an encouragement to me and to many involved in simple churches across the region. ————— An Open Letter By Jeff Herron To: My friends and family who regularly attend traditional church… Read More »Why I No Longer Go To Church – An Open Letter (by Jeff Herron)

Several months ago I received a very encouraging message from a Justin in Vermont. Justin left a message that he had been through a type of crises related to his understanding of “church” and stumbled upon our website. There he found our podcast and listened to several of them and had decided to start a simple church himself. Over the past several months, I have been encouraged to meet with Justin, his friend Matthew, and members of their community via online meetings using Zoom (something I’m available to do with you as well!). Their simple church has been blessed to see… Read More »New Simple Church In…Vermont!
In a recent Charisma magazine article, Francis Chan shared more on his journey from megachurch pastor to simple church planter. Chan doesn’t think the standard church model is wrong. But he does think it’s often distracted from what matters. He compares it to throwing a birthday party for his son. He could invite a few friends over to celebrate his song and give him gifts. He could also rent out Chuck E. Cheese and give everyone all the tokens they could want. Undoubtedly more kids would come to the second party. But it’s no longer a celebration for his son:… Read More »Francis Chan: Chuck E. Cheese Church?

“So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time, we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.” – Galatians 6:9-10 MSG Recently, I was treated to one of the more encouraging regular meetings that I have when I met with University of Kentucky Assistant Gymnastics Coach Chuck Dickerson. Chuck is one of the most refreshing human beings I know. (I have… Read More »A Word of Encouragement
