Be A Trader!

Be A Trader!

Take a break from what you are doing and watch this short video.  Will you be a trader?  I am afraid that if we are unwilling to be traders that our simple churches will be reduced to nothing more than a different type of church meeting we attend each week (or whenever our time allows).  How can your simple church community help encourage each other to be traders?

New Podcasts Up!

Hello friends! We have several new podcasts up at keepitsimplepodcast.com. You can also subscribe on iTunes at this link as well. It’s been awhile since I’ve updated the links, so you may remember that beginning with Episode 65, Tom and I re-launched the podcast with the idea of starting from scratch and re-introducing the “Who?” “What?” “When?” “Where?” “Why?” and “How?” questions surrounding simple/organic church. Episode 75 “Who Can Baptize Others in The Simple Church?” was just released. You can check out all the new episodes and the old ones at our website.  If you feel...

Google Hangout Tonight! 8PM “Teaching”

You can visit Indy Ekklesia at their website (http://indyekklesia.com) where you can actually get a really good feel for what teaching looks like in their community.  Each week they record and post  the...

Keep It Simple Podcast Relaunch!

For over two years now,  Tom Lecompte and I have co-hosted the simple church podcast “Keep it Simple.”  Tom, from New Covenant Fellowship (a house church network in Louisville, KY) and I originally started the podcast because we thought it would be a good opportunity to connect and discuss simple/house/organic church issues we were wrestling with.  Two years into it, we are still going and now we want to “relaunch” the podcast with a specific focus on helping others understand and carry out simple church principles with the hope of seeing new simple churches started. If we only had  6 or 7 podcasts to help you get started with simple...

Ever felt this way about church?

Ever felt this way about church?

I saw this image the other day and chuckled to myself because of frequent conversations I have with people who express similar thoughts about church. “I survived another church service that should have been a podcast,” or “I survived another sermon that should have been me reading the Bible for myself”  is essentially the sentiment. When we make “church” primarily about the one-way delivery of content (messages, music, etc.), many people can leave the experience scratching their heads wondering why they didn’t just watch church on TV or download the podcast.  It’s as if they  look at our Sunday classes and think,...

Why Start Simple Churches? (Video Part 3)

Why Start Simple Churches? (Video Part 3)

This is part three of Erik’s video series on simple church.  Here he addresses the question, “Why start Simple Churches?”  I appreciate the simplicity in which Erik explains “church” as a natural result of disciples making disciples–which God desire to do through every follower of his.  It is simple and natural to see groups of disciples coming together to follow Jesus in community with each other.

What Do We Do At A Simple Church Gathering (Video Part 2)

In this video Erik addresses the question of how a simple church can be formed and what the church does at a simple church gathering.   He has some very practical ideas and as you can see it is simple.  I love his last point about praying that God would show you pockets of people who are “culturally averse to the American way of doing church” and being available to see a seed church formed.

Simple Church Video Series with Erik Fish (part 1)

Simple Church Video Series with Erik Fish (part 1)

I had a great visit with Erik a while back in Cleveland and he is a great partner in promoting simple/organic expressions of church multiplication.  He has recently posted a series of short teachings on simple church and discipleship.  I will repost them here in the coming days.   In this video, I think the term “seed form of church” is helpful to think about when making disciples and seeing simple churches formed.  Sometimes I think we can fall into the trap of thinking that we have to have fully mature simple church functioning on day one for it to count as real local church.  Enjoy the first video!

Lecrae on Engaging Culture (Video & Free Album)

Lecrae on Engaging Culture (Video & Free Album)

Check out the video below and hear Lecrae echo our plea to end the sacred/secular divide and truly embrace the “priesthood of all believers” (I have actually used the “JV” analogy he uses in the talk many times to address this issue.  It is always amazing to see how God puts the same ideas, even same words, in the hearts of people from different places and different backgrounds.) and call believers to live as missionaries within their given cultural context. I am convinced that the number one challenge for existing simple/house/organic churches is to continue heeding this call.  Failure to do so will result in ingrown groups of Christians...

Star of Bethlehem Presentation – Dec. 23rd

Please join us to view The Star of Bethlehem on Sunday December 23rd, 10a-12p. Please RSVP to mtmlex@yahoo.com and See details below. Hello, my name is Mark Mackey, I’m part of the Simple Church network (Out West), and I would like to share with you a video presentation that is awe-inspiring. In our family, this DVD(the Star of Bethlehem) has become somewhat of a tradition to view a couple of times per year. With all of the distractions of commercialism, and pressure “to do” whatever makes Christmas a “happy holiday”, don’t you get the feeling there’s just something not right about it all? What if you could roll back the...
