A Story of Real Multiplication In Tampa, Florida

Below is a link to a podcast that features the story of Lee Wood.  I met Lee last year when in Tampa meeting with other simple church leaders involved with the Zume Project.  He considered my song “Mega House Church” a genius work of art, so of course we hit it off! Lee’s story will encourage anyone who has lost faith in the church in the US or who has a hard time imagining how His church and Kingdom can expand without the buildings, budgets, programs and professional Christians we have grown accustomed to.  Lee is a genuinely humble guy, as you will hear.  His tears are real.  His story is real.  The multiplication he is talking about is...

An Online Simple Church Multiplication Course

I wanted to share with everyone a very good online simple church course.  “Multiplication Concepts” is led by my new friend Curtis Sergeant. Curtis is involved in simple church multiplication and church planting movements across the globe. Curtis has a tremendous heart for our world and for those who are hopeless and in need of Christ.  It is out of this heart, his lifelong experiences in the harvest fields, and a close examination of the Scriptures that have given birth to the thoughts shared here in these training videos. While you may not follow 100% of everything that Curtis suggests, I know that anyone who is interested in seeing disciples and...

Ying and Grace Kai Story

Ying and Grace Kai Story

This week I had the privilege to meet and spend a little time with Ying Kai and his wife and Grace. It was great to have my faith stretched by their amazing story, humble attitude, and burden for the world to know the love of Jesus. Ying and Grace have experienced the power of multiplication in China (a term we can sometimes misuse here in the United States to describe addition and sometimes even division). Their story is a great encouragement and reminder to us that God is in fact a God of multiplication.  Through their example, we learn that when we expect multiplication to happen and we help others follow Christ in ways that are not dependent on complex systems...

2016 Simple Church Conference / Sept 10-11

2016 Simple Church Conference Prayer for multiplication.  In our fifth year of hosting this conference, we want to have a prayer focus–specifically praying for multiplication of disciples.  One of the characteristics of church planting movements across this globe is “abundant prayer.”  This year we will discuss the essential role of prayer in simple church and disciple making ministry and we will also spend time… you guessed it…  praying!  Together we hope to hear from the Lord in prayer about our relationship with Him and our  role in making disciples of all the nations–beginning with our neighbors.  Certainly we could spend a lot of time...

Zumé Project Overview

The Zumé Project Small Tools for BIG IMPACT in the Kingdom Below is the Zumé Project overview.  I would ask that you pray about your involvement in this project.  Most of all, please pray that the Holy Spirit leads it!  Essentially, it is the same project of Simple Church Alliance as from the beginning we have been led to “multiply disciples and simple churches, starting in Central Kentucky and extending to the ends of the earth.”  The best way to think of Zumé is a tool that I believe God is going to use to help achieve this vision He has given us. I will be expanding on this outline in the weeks to come, but for now here is the overview…...

Zumé Project Preview

UPDATE: Join Gavin and Forrest Head, with BigLife@Home for a Google Hangout on Wednesday June 1st at 8PM to learn more about the Zumé Project and pray for our nation.  Details HERE.  Over the last several months people from around the country have been coming together from various denominations and even types of churches to pray for and consider the common purpose of multiplying disciples, and yes, simple churches across the nation under the banner of the Zumé Project.  The Zumé Project (see video below) is an approach to fulfilling the Great Commission in North America by helping to establish disciple making groups or simple churches in every census tract...

A Good Video Explaining Simple Church

A Good Video Explaining Simple Church

There are a lot videos floating around that aid in explaining simple church and house church ideas.  We’ve gathered several here on this website. This particular video pulls from a few of my favorites.  I also like the presenters thought about how simple churches can multiply… be in two simple churches at the same time! I’m interested in your thoughts on this idea. In some ways I think that the first “community” someone would be involved in could be something like a “Life Transformation Group” or a smaller disciple-making relationship of two or three. Nonetheless, I think he does a good job of explaining visually the hope of...

House Church Multiplication In Appalachia

House Church Multiplication In Appalachia

I often think about opportunities for simple or house church multiplication in my region.  When I pray, Appalachia frequently comes to mind.  Eastern Kentucky is often characterized by its economic and drug challenges.  However, when I think of of Eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian region, I see opportunity–opportunity for disciples and churches to multiply. A recent article online from the folks at Exponential about Clarence Greenleaf (1915-2004) highlighted the faithfulness he and his church family (Grundy Church) in the region.  While many the churches he helped plant ended up going the way of brick and mortar, he had a passion for church multiplication...

Simple Church Fan Clubs?

Simple Church Fan Clubs?

Joshua Gibbs, in his article Can We Make Classicism Into A Fan Club Instead Of A Movement? at the Circe Institute has an interesting critique of whole notion of “starting movements.”  While he directs his message toward an audience hoping to see a classical education movement, I think he raises some interesting questions for those of us who would say that we are apart of (or hoping to be apart of) a simple/organic church movement in North America.  He writes… Movements are necessary, I suppose. When I say movement, I mean a group of people who have an agenda they want to accomplish— changing the hearts and minds and pocketbooks and laws of society...

Simple Church Video Series with Erik Fish (part 1)

Simple Church Video Series with Erik Fish (part 1)

I had a great visit with Erik a while back in Cleveland and he is a great partner in promoting simple/organic expressions of church multiplication.  He has recently posted a series of short teachings on simple church and discipleship.  I will repost them here in the coming days.   In this video, I think the term “seed form of church” is helpful to think about when making disciples and seeing simple churches formed.  Sometimes I think we can fall into the trap of thinking that we have to have fully mature simple church functioning on day one for it to count as real local church.  Enjoy the first video!
