Simple Church Conference – Retreat 2017

Connect with and learn alongside simple/house/organic church practitioners from around the region at this year’s simple church conference/retreat. This year, we welcome Lee and Stacy Wood from Tampa, FL. Lee and Stacy have seen God birth over a hundred house churches throughout the Tampa area in the last several years as Jesus’s followers have been empowered and encouraged to be the Church in their neighborhoods, workplaces and areas of influence. We encourage you to bring the whole family this year and enjoy a time together of refreshment and encouragement around the campfire, on a hike through the Jessamine Gorge, and in times of worship and story-telling...

“Church At The Place” Update

What’s God been teaching us? (By Kaleb and Kate Phillips)   Focusing on the Few God continues to bring broken people into our lives as we make ourselves available to him. There are many needs around us, but our goal is to stay focused on the few people that God draws to us and to work where Jesus is working. If we can raise up a handful of leaders who will break the generational curses in their families, raise their children in the knowledge of Jesus, and multiply their faith, we will have spent our time wisely. The reality of our church and ministry (and personally following Jesus) is that it is more typically a daily grind of obedience and openness to the...

8 Ways To Start A Simple Church

8 Ways To Start A Simple Church There are no formulas for how to start a simple church.  The Holy Spirit must be the Initiator and Leader if a real church community is to be birthed.  Even still, I can imagine some ways God could use you to birth simple churches: 1. LTG – As you and a friend or two begin a Life Transformation Group (LTG) and you see that LTG multiply into two LTGs, a simple church can be formed. It’s logical and natural that you say, “why don’t we all share a meal together?” If married, the husband’s and wife’s LTGs can come together weekly for simple church! There are many advantages to this because the multiplication of disciples is...

Free Christmas Music

With #GivingTuesday upon us, we would like to give a gift to you! Enjoy these songs recorded live at our simple church christmas gathering a couple of years ago! You can listen to and download all the songs for FREE at the link below.  If you enjoy it, please share it as well! This was our first ever attempt at recording a “simple church” worship event live.  I think that this recording came as close as possible to capturing the simplicity of families and friends coming together to celebrate the risen Savior.  This release also includes a song recorded live at a “skate church” gathering and the album version of “Lights on My...

Baptisms and Such

Baptisms and Such

God has been moving! The past six weeks have been some of the fullest, most rewarding, and most draining times of our lives and certainly of our ministry. Since the middle of September we have seen eight young people profess faith in Jesus as Savior and step into the waters of baptism. To put this in perspective, in the previous year we had baptized four people, all of which were amazing stories of redemption. During the past few weeks though, God has really been doing some cool stuff…..early church in the book of Acts type of stuff! Our gatherings have...

Simple Church Conference 16 Wrap Up

I want to take a second and thank everyone who came together this last weekend for the simple church conference.  As I shared at the conference, I had experienced a lot of resistance about the entire during the whole process of planning our time together–so much so that I knew the day had to happen!  I trust that the our time will together will continue to impact our faith journeys and our simple churches that we are connected too. For those that could not make it, allow me to offer a brief summary of our weekend: On Saturday morning, we saw folks from Lexington, Nicholasville, Wilmore, Louisville, Beijing China, and Washington DC come together to consider their...

2016 Simple Church Conference / Sept 10-11

2016 Simple Church Conference Prayer for multiplication.  In our fifth year of hosting this conference, we want to have a prayer focus–specifically praying for multiplication of disciples.  One of the characteristics of church planting movements across this globe is “abundant prayer.”  This year we will discuss the essential role of prayer in simple church and disciple making ministry and we will also spend time… you guessed it…  praying!  Together we hope to hear from the Lord in prayer about our relationship with Him and our  role in making disciples of all the nations–beginning with our neighbors.  Certainly we could spend a lot of time...

Church By A Big Tree

God is giving birth to a simple church composed of folks who originally connected through an “ultimate frisbee” team.  I met Lynnette Malott and her family a week ago when visiting this neat new community of Jesus followers.  Today she posted to her Facebook page the comments below.  I asked her if I could repost here.  — One year in Kentucky today. We moved out here to be part of a church plant, but tonight we did church by a big tree in the park with a group of entirely different people. One of the women that I had just met said to me last week that our church plant didn’t fail, it just ended up looking differently than we thought it...

What are you willing to do to spread the word?

What are you willing to do to spread the word?

What are you willing to do to spread the word about Jesus?  If God asked you to do something hard and that would take over three years to complete would you be willing to see it through?  These are a few of the question that I left the theater last Tuesday night asking myself after the premiere of Seek First. Seek First is a skate video that was made by members of the simple church in Lexington known as “Skate Church.”  I won’t go into all the details here mostly because the Lexington Herald Leader did a great job on sharing the vision for the video in last Saturday’s paper (read here).  The short version is that God spoke to Josh Roberts...
